Changes to Sellafield site access arrangements from 30th June 2010
The Station Gate at Sellafield will be closed permanently to routine vehicular traffic from 30 June 2010, as the first phase of a programme of scheduled enhancements to the security arrangements at the site’s access points.
Pedestrians will still be able to access the site through the Station Gate. Cyclists will be required to enter and exit the site through Main Gate.
An alternative access point for motorists and cyclists will be opened for in-muster at WAMAC Gate with restrictions on vehicles longer than 5m or weighing more than 2.5t. There will be no pedestrian access at this new gate. Users of this new gate will notice additional security features and will be required to present their pass to the CNC Police Officer at two separate stages. It is not expected that this additional pass check will lead to any significant delays.
In order to minimise disruption, all personnel are reminded to observe local speed limits and familiarise themselves with access times and procedures for all site access points.
Motorists, cyclists and pedestrians are requested to take particular care when approaching or leaving the site due to potential variations in traffic flow.
Details of the next phase of this enhancement programme will be communicated at the appropriate time.
