Our People

Our people are our biggest asset. Between them, our Sellafield Capenhurst and Risley sites are operated by around 10,000 of the most experienced and highly regarded nuclear workers in the world. The workforce ranges from apprentices, graduates and doctorates, through to those who began work in the 1960s. Their expertise covers all of Sellafield Ltd’s needs, from standard business functions, to highly specialised decommissioning and engineering activities.

I started my career as an Electrical and Instruments apprentice, I have trained and progressed to become the Team Leader of the team I originally started with. I am responsible for both mechanical and electrical craftspeople. I train new starters and apprentices as well as develop people in their role. I enjoy working for Sellafield Ltd as it provides excellent opportunities for training and development.

I have worked as a nurse within the Sellafield Occupational Health Department for the last five years.

I thrive on being part of an innovative and caring team and the work is interesting and varied. It includes advising management on health issues, undertaking health surveillance and screening and providing a 24 hour decontamination service. We also provide a Nurse led minor treatment service and 24 hour First Aid cover which include response to medical emergencies.

Over the past six years I have learnt valuable experience from disposing of waste correctly to implementing new and more efficient methods. My work is exciting and varied. Never knowing what our team will have to analyse next, from seagulls or rock samples, we have the procedures in place to deal with almost any type of radiological analysis.
I have a challenging job which I place great pride in.

I am a Contract Support Officer working on the Contract between the NDA and Sellafield Ltd for the Management and Operation of the site. This mainly entails ensuring that we meet our contractual obligations to the NDA.

I first worked for the company as an undergraduate in 2000 and after graduating as a Process Engineer in 2002, joined the Company's Graduate Management Training Scheme. I am fortunate to be employed by a company that is interested in the welfare of its staff and encourages and supports its staff to develop their experience and skill base. The company has also supported my development outside the workplace as I now work 4 days a week which allows me to spend more time playing the role which I love the most, i.e. being a Mum.

I am lucky enough to run the Environmental Project at Yottenfews where schools can visit for the day to enjoy learning about the outdoors. Many of the youngsters will one day work on the Sellafield Site, and a day at Yottenfews hopefully leaves them with exciting experiences. Many of the children comment on the fact that a member of their family, or a friend, works on Site.
